French Cultural Events for Winter Break Fun

Staying in the DMV during winter break? Check the following French cultural events to continue the fun en français before we resume our program on January 4!

Nous Bloomons (French language music program)

Sun, December 29, 10am – 11am

Nous Bloomons is a celebration of French language and culture through song and dance, led by Achille Ango. If you want to have fun, dance, jump and sing “à tue-tête”, visit this popular weekly event at BloomBars! $7 suggested donation per child. $5 per adult.

French Impressionist paintings (19 th century) at the National Gallery of Art

No need to take a trip to Le Musée d’Orsay to enjoy French art. The West Building of the NGA features an amazing collection of 19th century French paintings with pieces by Monet, Renoir, Pisarro, Cézanne and many others. This exhibition offers a great opportunity for young learners to review colors and vocabulary associated with seasons and practice describing a picture. You can end the tour by visiting the NGAkids arts zone where kids can become the artist!

Enjoy a café by the Paris Metropolitan gate in the NGA Sculpture garden before or after the tour to add to the experience.

Parents can continue the travels to 19th century France by watching the movie Cézanne et moi on Netflix.

Try a Galette des Rois at a local bakery

Our first class of the winter session will end with the traditional Galette des Rois (King’s Cake). If you wish to get a taste of the famous treat before we resume our program, consult this article to find the best frangipane galettes in the district.

We will use this video to sing about galette and get familiar with the tradition.

Visit the French Bookstore in Kensington, MD

Explore Bonjour Books, a French-language bookstore specializing in children’s literature.

Not feeling like leaving your home? You can also enjoy a "chocolat chaud" and watch French versions of popular cartoons like Peppa Pig or Paw Patrol.
