Class Highlight : Le théâtre d'ombres
In today's world of high-tech media, creating a state of wonder can seem difficult to achieve but the simplest means are often the most effective. I gave shadow puppetry a try and cut up a cardboard box, used tissue paper to make a screen and got Paris-themed shadow puppets from le Moulin Roty. I played the classic tune "Douce France" by Charles Trenet to add to the ambiance and used simple language to describe the scene (le musicien joue, le cheminot monte, je voyage...). As demonstrated in the video below, this "mise en scène" proved to be very effective and brought an air of magic to the class. This was a nice way to start the Trip to Paris theme for this class and can be easily reproduced at home.
